Brazil-Argentina submarine cable to be put into operation in the first half of 2020
The GlobeNet, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider in the Americas, announced the deployment of a new submarine cable system that will link Rio de Janeiro and San Paulo to Buenos Aires for a total length of approximately 2,500 kilometers.
This new infrastructure will connect the GlobeNet network between Argentina and Brazil, effectively linking South America with the United States and the world. With the infrastructure already deployed in Bermuda, Brazil, Colombia, the United States and Venezuela, GlobeNet's latest expansion plan will attract more customers of OTTs, and cloud provider and carrier to seek to increase their influence across the region.
“Our submarine cable program is designed to meet low latency and high capacity requirements and will be the first direct connection from Argentina to Brazil and the United States since 2001,” said Eduardo Falzoni, CEO of GlobeNet. "As a result, Argentinian Internet users and businesses will be able to enjoy unmatched capabilities when transferring content, accessing cloud services and interconnecting with global data centers with new fiber optic cable systems."
