Deutsche Telekom launches Germany's largest fiber broadband upgrade program
Deutsche Telekom announced on March 28 that it will begin to transform the network and provide FTTH services to 40,000 people in northeast Germany.
“The construction work starts today.” Timotheus Hottges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, said, “We will prove that rural areas and fast Internet are not mutually exclusive. It takes only 18 months, Mecklenburg-Pomerania, Lue Residents in the area will be able to obtain a speed of 1 Gbps and become the first German region to have a world-class digital infrastructure."
According to Deutsche Telekom’s statement, the network reconstruction and expansion project will cover Gigabit broadband to 40000 buildings by the end of 2018.
The broadband network upgrade was supported by the local and federal governments and they provided 28 million euros in funds for this purpose.
