Etisalat Enables 5G Connectivity in Dubai's First Metro Station

 

According to media reports on December 14, UAE telecommunications operator Etisalat announced that it will enable 5G connection services at Dubai's Etisalat Metro Station, which will become the first 5G metro station in the Middle East and North Africa. Etisalat is the eastern terminal of the Dubai Metro Green Line, which was opened to the public in September 2011.

Etisalat started building infrastructure to develop 5G services in 2014, and launched the first commercial 5G wireless network in the UAE in 2018, becoming the first in the region.

Etisalat announced this month that its 5G independent (SA) network has achieved more than 3.1Gbps downloads. In August this year, Etisalat announced that it has achieved 5G coverage in the world's tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa. In November this year, Etisalat partnered with Yas Marina Circuit to achieve 5G connectivity at the 2019 F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, making it the first international circuit in the Middle East and North Africa to achieve 5G. Etisalat also plans to install smart solutions in Dubai's JLT area, which will cover more than 16,000 companies and 100,000 people who live, work and visit the area.
