NTT Invests In MIST Submarine Cable Project
Recently, NTT says it has partnered with Orient Link Pte. The joint venture formed an international submarine cable joint venture. The first project of the joint venture is the MIST submarine cable, which gradually connects Singapore, Myanmar and India (with landing sites in Mumbai and Chennai, India). Construction of the subsea network is scheduled to begin this month. The subsea system is expected to be operational in June 2022.
MIST will be a 12-fiber-to-submarine cable that will run 11,000 kilometers and have a design capacity of 240 Tbps at 400 Gbps. NTT said that this would be "good for natural disasters or any other unforeseen circumstances along the Indian coast", and NTT will invest about $ 400 million to deploy MIST.
NTT provides data centers in each of the three countries to which MIST connects. Service providers plan to connect MIST fiber optic cable landing stations directly to each data center through a large-capacity fiber-optic network interconnect that NTT owns, builds, and operates. NTT is used to centrally maintain and operate the landing station.
