Deutsche Telekom AG Adds € 400 Million in 2018 to Build Fiber And Mobile Networks
Recently, Deutsche Telekom AG announced its FY17 results, revealing that it will ease its capital expenditures by investing 12.5 billion euros (15.4 billion U.S. dollars) this year 2018, more than 12.1 billion euros (14.9 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, to build fiber and mobile networks with the goal of successfully launching the next generation of 5G services by 2020.
The 5G mobile network's back-haul connection (between the base station and the core network) and the pre-connection (decentralized RAN network) will rely heavily on optical fiber. To build faster 5G mobile networks, operators will need state-of-the-art fixed-line infrastructure. This year, Deutsche Telekom said it plans to deploy 60,000 kilometers of fiber in Germany, up from 40,000 kilometers in 2017.
